We opened in 2011 with one rule that has not changed since: no guest leaves with hair that only works on the day they were here. Everything else — the colour, the cut, the room itself — follows from that.

The story

The studio began as two chairs above a florist on Wilshire, taken on a short lease because the light through the west windows was the best in the neighbourhood. Julien had come off fifteen seasons of runway and editorial work and wanted to stop building hair that lasted four hours under a photographer's lights.

The clientele arrived slowly and by word of mouth — first the editors and stylists he had worked with, then their friends, then a waiting list. When the floor below came free in 2016 the studio took it, added the dispensary bar and the treatment room, and stopped at seven chairs. It has stayed at seven ever since, because eight would mean rushing.

What has not changed is the pace. Colour appointments are booked with real time around them. Consultations are not squeezed into the first ten minutes of a service. A stylist who needs a second visit to get a blonde right is expected to say so rather than push through.

How we work

Four commitments that shape every appointment on the book, from a thirty-minute root retouch to a full day of restoration.

    The consultation is the service

    Seated, unhurried, and before anything is mixed. We look at your hair dry and in daylight, talk through what it will actually hold, and write the plan down. If what you have asked for will damage your hair, we will say so and offer the route that gets you there safely.

  2. 02

    Formulas are written and kept

    Every colour is mixed to order at the dispensary bar and logged against your name — developer, timing, toner, the lot. Your second visit starts from a record, not a memory, and any stylist on the floor can pick it up.

  3. 03

    The shape has to survive you

    We cut dry first so the hair falls the way it naturally wants to, then refine wet. Then we teach you the finish with your own hands and your own tools, because a blowout that only we can reproduce is not a haircut.

  4. 04

    The condition outranks the colour

    Bond-building is built into the price of lightening rather than upsold at the basin. If a lift has to be staged across two appointments to keep the hair intact, we stage it — and we would rather lose the booking than the hair.

The room

Seven chairs, tall west-facing windows, and mirrors lit at daylight temperature so the colour you approve in the chair is the colour you see on the street. The dispensary bar sits open at the back of the floor — nothing is mixed out of sight.

There is a separate treatment room for scalp and smoothing work, kept quiet and dim. Valet is validated at the Wilshire entrance, and there is no charge for the coffee, which is better than it needs to be.

Julien trained in the atelier system — three years assisting before he was permitted to hold shears on the floor — and he still runs the studio that way. Nothing leaves the chair until it has been checked dry, in daylight, from every angle.

Fifteen seasons of runway and editorial work taught him to build hair that survives contact with real life: wind, humidity, a second-day ponytail. He founded the studio to bring that discipline to a chair you can actually book.

Senior Color Specialist

Elena is the person other colourists call when a blonde has gone wrong. She reads porosity the way a sommelier reads a label, and she is unhurried about it — most of her corrections are staged across two or three visits rather than forced in one.

Her signature is a lived-in blonde with a soft root and no visible line of demarcation, formulated so that the grow-out at week ten still looks deliberate.

Precision Cutting & Extension Specialist

Marcus cuts to the head, not to a diagram. He works almost entirely freehand with a razor, removing weight in places most stylists leave alone, which is why his bobs sit rather than flick.

He also handles the studio's extension work end to end — matching, application, maintenance, and removal — and is candid with guests when extensions are the wrong answer for their hair.
